Military Medal 'At WESTHOEK RIDGE 20th September 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when during an attack a machine gun seemed likely to hold up the advance - he led his section against the machine gun, putting it out of action, and capturing its crew. Throughout he showed great coolness and daring. Later, when the objective was reached, he quickly reorganised his men and consolidated in a forward position.'
