War service: Egypt, Western Front

Joined HT 'Runic' at Colombo, Ceylon; marched in to Zeitoun, Egypt, 26 February 1916, and temporarily attached to 9th Reinforcements, 20th Bn. Joined 2nd Bn, Serapeum, 17 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 July 1916.

Wounded in action, France, 23 July 1916 (gun shot wound, left arm), and admitted to 1/1st South Midland Division Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by Ambulance Train No 112 and admitted to 8th General Hospital, Rouen, 24 July 1916; transferred to England, 26 July 1916, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 27 July 1916 (wound: slight); discharged to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 2 August 1916. Found guilty, 18 September 1916, of being absent without leave, Perham Downs, from 1500, 4 September, till he reported, 1200, 6 September 1916: awarded 7 days' confined to camp and forfeited 3 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 September 1916; rejoined 2nd Bn, Belgium, 5 October 1916.

On Command to Divisional School, 5 February 1917; rejoined Bn from School, 28 February 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 10 October 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 4 November 1917.

Admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 21 May 1918 (influenza); transferred to 18th Casualty Clearing Station, 22 May 1918; discharged to unit, 3 June 1918; rejoined unit, 9 June 1918.

On leave to United Kingdom, 31 October 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 19 November 1918.
