Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 15 July 1916.

Reported missing, 19 July 1916.

CO, 60th Bn, reported, 30 January 1917: 'This man's body found in NO MAN'S LAND and disc recovered on 8/8/16.'

Statement, 3047 Sergeant W.L. CARKEET, D Company, 60th Bn (patient, No 9 General Hospital, Rouen), 8 November 1916: 'I knew a man called Heggie in C Coy. but I do not know his number. He was about 5 ft. 10 ins. or 5 ft. 11 ins with light brown hair ... and he would be about 21 years of age ... He took part in the attack on Fromelles on the 19th July but did not return. Some time afterwards, his disc was returned to the Orderly Room. I saw his disc.'
