Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Whilst the position was being heavily bombarded by high explosives, gas shells, and machine guns this N.C.O. stuck to his work of dismounting three heavy howitzers, and enabled one gun and portions of two others to be withdrawn. He has displayed a splendid example of courage and resource throughout the operations.'
