'On the night of the 20th September 1917 and the morning of the 21st September, Lance Cpl. BARKER continually patrolled the WARRINGTON VERBRANDEN and ZILLEBEKE Roads near YPRES for 6 hours by day and 6 hours by night during very heavy enemy shelling and by his energy and resource in controlling the traffic, ensured the supply of munitions and food to the front line.'
