Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the Battle of YPRES (Phase 5) 12th October 1917. When all his stretcher bearers were killed or wounded he continued to search the shell holes in front of the line for wounded comrades. Bandaging their wounds and marking their positions he organised extra stretcher bearers, and continued carrying for 30 hours without rest although thoroughly exhausted. Several men who had sunk in the shell holes undoubtedly owe their lives to his fearlessness and self sacrifice under very heavy enemy Artillery and Machine Gun fire.'
