Military Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty near VILLERS BRETONNEUX on 3rd May, 1918. Although all his gun team were casualties he took his gun through to the objective and kept it in action throughout causing great loss to the enemy. When the counter-attack came, he stayed with consumate coolness and covered the withdrawal and undoubtedly his grand work saved many casualties and enabled a systematic withdrawal to be made. His bravery and devotion to duty were in the highest degree excellent.'
