War service: Egypt, Gallipoli

Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 25 August 1915. Absorbed in to 1st Light Horse Regiment, 29 August 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 27 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Proceeded to join the Western Front Force, Egypt, 14 January 1916.

Admitted to 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance, Minia, 18 February 1916 (mumps); transferred to 1st HMB Field Ambulance, 19 February 1916 (epidemic paratitis); to 1/2 SWM Brigade Field Ambulance, 5 March 1916; discharged to and rejoined unit, 11 March 1916.

Wounded in action, 9 January 1917 (gun shot wound, left shoulder: slight); admitted to 1/2 Lowland Field Ambulance, El Arish, 11 January 1917; transferred to 24th Stationary Hospital, El Arish, 11 January 1917; by Ambulance Train to Cairo, 14 January 1917, and admitted to 14th Australian General Hospital.

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HS 'Neuralia', 21 May 1917; disembarked Durban (date unclear); disembarked Capetown from HT 'Oxfordshire', 16 June 1917; admitted to hospital, Maitland, to await transport to Australia, 18 June 1917; re-embarked Capetown on board HT 'Ceramic', 26 August 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 15 September 1917, for overland travel to Sydney; discharged (medically unfit), Sydney, 8 December 1917.
