Found guilty, 31 October 1916, of being absent without leave from midnight, 30 October, until 4 pm, 31 October 1916: awarded 1 day's Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 2 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 25 November 1916. Admitted to 11th Australian Field Ambulance, 11 September 1917 (defective vision); trasferred same day to 4th Stationary Hospital, Arques; discharged to Base Depot, Rouelles, 14 September 1917. Proceeded to England, 26 September 1917; marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 September 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Berrima' for discharge (overage), 31 October 1917; disembarked Fremantle, 22 December 1917; discharged (medically unfit: shell concussion, defective vision, rheumatism), Perth, 12 January 1918.
