War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Admitted to No 2 Field Ambulance, Royal Naval Division, Cape Helles, 12 June 1915 (tachiadiods bronchitis); transferred same day to Casualty Clearing Station, west Beach; to Egypt, and granted 6 months' leave by Medical Board, 21 July 1915, and embarked for England; admitted to 3rd London General hospital, Wandsworth. Commenced return to Australia from Southampton on board HS 'Karoola', 19 October 1915 (pulmonary tuberculosis); embarked Suez, 4 November 1915; appointment terminated (discharged), 5 June 1916. Medical report, Melbourne Hospital, 9 December 1915: 'Became ill on April 1915 at advance Krithia with Bronchitis and Pneumonia[.] [W]as ill in Egypt two months then sent to England. Had fresh colds & temp. Sent by Karoola to Australia ... Disability due to Active Service: Infection, fatigue, exposure.' |
