Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. During the operations east of YPRES on 4th October, 1917, when the other members of his squad had been killed or wounded, this N.C.O. went on alone through a heavy enemy barrage, found the regimental Aid Post, and then brought back word of its location. He then acted a guide to other squads and all through the day helped in the evacuation of the wounded, showing absolute disregard of danger and setting a fine example to all the bearers.'
