Military Medal

'For continuous gallantry South west of LE CATELET during the period September 29th - October 1st, 1918. On September 29th he worked with his section on clearing a track through wire and trenches for the passage of artillery. On the subsequent days he did most valuable engineer reconnaissance work. On several occasions he and his men came under heavy shell fire, but by his coolness and gallantry he carried out to the entire satisfaction of his officers work entrusted to him. The example under fire which he set to his men during this period was most marked.'
