Military Medal 'On the night of 30th September, 1918 near BELLICOURT this man displayed splendid gallantry and devotion to duty. While taking hot food to the Companies in the line, the column came under very heavy shell fire during which Private LAPPAN and his pack mule were blown up. A few moments later a shell fell amongst the Cooker teams and wounded one of the Drivers. The team bolted through BELLICOURT, and with great presence of mind and utter disregard of danger Private LAPPAN mounted his horse bare back, galloped after the runaway team and brought back the cooker and the food intact. His gallant conduct saved the hot food of half the Battalion on the eve of its attack on ESTREES, and is deserving of the highest praise.'
