Military Medal

'On 12th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action. some mules, carrying ammunition through shell fire and fell into shell holes, losing their loads. This man, at great personal risk owing to the heavy shell fire around, extricated two of them, readjusted their loads, and led the animals forward. As the ammunition supply had become very low, his efforts were most valuable to the troops in the firing line.'
