Military Medal 'At ST. YVES on the 4th June, 1917, during the removal of the Gas Cylinders, Private Jabez LESTER SMITH, under heavy artillery fire, showed great devotion to duty and determination in assisting in the complete removal of the whole of the Cylinders from the front line. Working in the open he carried Cylinders again and again openly exposed to the enemy's fire. By this cool consistent action he set a fine example to his fellow workers, helping them to carry on until this most difficult task was complete.'
