Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near LE VERQUIER on the 18th September, 1918. Private LINES, when his Company was held up in front of Objective by enemy machine gun fire, with great daring took his lewis gun section forward taking up a position from which he was able to enfilade and smother the enemy fire, thus allowing his Company to continue the advance. Pushing forward he established a post in advance inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy and enfilading a trench which was still occupied by them. At great personal risk he proceeded still further down a sunken road and opened fire on the enemy eventually driving them from the position. His work throughout showed an utter disregard for personal safety, his leadership and initiative creating great confidence in his section.'
