Wounded in action, Gallipoli, 27 August 1915; admitted to 16tth Casualty Clearing Station (gun shot wound, left leg); transferred to Alexandria, 28 August 1915, and admitted to No. 2 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 5 September 1915. Discharged to Convalescent Hospital, Helouan, 28 September 1915; rejoined unit at Gallipoli, 11 November 1915.

Admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, 4 December 1915 (frostbite); transferred to HS 'Grantully Castle', 10 December 1915; admitted to No. 1 Astralian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 14 December 1915; discharged to duty, 27 December 1915.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 March 1916.

Found guilty, 27 April 1916, of conduct prejudicial of good order and military discipline in that he left a bathing parade without permission, and drunkenness: awarded 21 days' Field Punishment No. 2.

Wounded in action, 9 May 1916 (bomb: chest, legs and arms); transferred to England, 30 May 1916, and admitted to Middlesex Hospital, Clacton, 31 May 1916. Transferred to No. 1 Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 1 September 1916; marched in to No. 2 Command Depot, 18 August 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ajana' from Portland, 17 October 1916; discharged, 4 April 1917.
