Military Medal

'At CHUIGNES on 23rd August, 1918, when his platoon was held up by an enemy machine gun post and his officer had become a casualty, Sergeant LONEY took charge of the platoon and worked round to a flank. He then engaged the post with his Lewis Guns, charging with the remainder of his platoon, capturing two guns and prisoners. Later in the day he displayed great coolness and judgment consolidating the line gained. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by this N.C.O. was of the greatest value to his men.'
