Military Medal 'At DEMICOURT, on 15th April 1917, L/Cpl LYALL was No. 1 and in charge of a reserve machine gun which was sent up to assist to repel the enemy attack. Under heavy rifle and machine gun fire he got into a good position and after opening fire on enemy was engaged by a machine gun. He at once engaged this gun and though being sniped at all times fired his gun and succeeded in getting the better of the enemy machine gun. He then opened fire on the enemy who had commenced to dig in. He was absolutely fearless of enemy fire, and continued to engage all targets that appeared.'
