Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the advance his platoon was held up in front of a very heavy belt of barbed wire by intense Machine Gun fire. Private Marsh immediately crawled forward with two other ranks to cut the wire, and eventually succeeded in cutting a gap. He was the foremost man in the rush which followed. He rushed a Machine Gun Post, bayoneted the entire crew and captured the gun. As a company runner, he did magnificent work carrying messages through intense machine gun and shell fire, and on several occasions acting as guide to ammunition carrying Parties. His splendid courage, devotion to duty, and fighting spirit were of the very highest order throughout the whole of the fighting.'
