Military Medal 'On 8th August, 1918, during the attack on the enemy's positions east of HAMEL, Private MASON was a member of the intelligence section which went forward with the advancing waves to secure papers from enemy dugouts and early identification of the enemy. Although wounded early in the advance he persevered in his task and successfully reached the Green Line capturing a number of valuable documents. In spite of heavy enemy fire he made a successful reconnaissance of the position and returned to his Battalion Commander with a disposition map of the units of the Battalion which was of great value at the time. Throughout the operation he displayed great bravery and initiative and set an excellent example to his comrades.'
