Proceeded overseas to France from Pioneer Training Bn, 31 December 1916; marched into 5th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 1 January 1917. Proceeded to unit, 10 February 1917; taken on strength of 5th Pioneer Bn, 11 February 1917. Wounded in action, 2 March 1917, and admitted to No 15 Field Ambulance the same day; transferred to No 45 Casualty Clearing Station, 3 March 1917 (gunshot wound, left leg); to No 5 General Hospital, Rouen, 4 March 1917; to England, 5 March 1917; to No 1 London General Hospital, Camberwell, 6 March 1917; discharged to furlough, 15 June 1917, and to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 29 June 1917. Marched out of No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 21 July 1917, and marched into Overseas Training Bn, Perham Downs, the same day.
