Admitted to 7th General Hospital, St Omer, 1 January 1917 (mumps); rejoined unit, 22 January 1917. Promoted Corporal, 31 March 1917. Transferred to England, 6 July 1917, as drill instructor, 6th Training Bn, Fovant.Admitted to Hurdcott Hospital, 6 November 1917 (tonsillitis); rejoined unit, 15 November 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, March 1918. Killed in action, 5 April 1918 (struck in the neck by a piece of shell that cut the jugular vein; died shortly thereafter).
