War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 11 January 1916; disembarked Suez, 9 February 1916. Embarked Alexandria, 6 June 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 16 June 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 5 September 1916; marched into 5th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 6 September 1916. Promoted to Acting Corporal, 13 September 1916. Marched out to unit and reverts to the rank of Private, 21 September 1916; taken on strength of 32nd Bn, in the field, 24 September 1916. Evacuated to hospital, 1 November 1916; admitted to No 38 Casualty Clearing Station, 2 November 1916 (rheumatism), then transferred to No 23 General Hospital the same day (myalgia); to England, 4 November 1916 (trench feet); to Military Hospital, Colchester, 4 November 1916; to No 2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 13 November 1916; discharged to No 4 Command Depot, Wareham, 16 November 1916.
