Proceeded overseas to France, 15 October 1916; taken on strength, 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company, in the field, 23 November 1916.

Re-allotted Regimental No 3605A, 10 January 1917.

Wounded in action, 6 February 1918 (shrapnel wound, nose), and admitted to 2nd Canadian Field Ambulance; rejoined unit same day.

Admitted to 73rd Field Ambulance, 26 July 1918 (not yet diagnosed: malaria); transferred to 7th Casualty Clearing Station, 27 July 1918; to Ambulance Train No 24, 2 August 1918, and admitted to 32nd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 3 August 1918; to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 7 August 1918; to 25th General Hospital, Boulogne, 11 August 1918 (piles); to No 1 Convalescent Hospital, 15 September 1918; discharged to 5th Divisional Rest Camp, Boulogne, 1 October 1918. Marched into Australian General Base Depot, Rouelles, 5 October 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 13 October 1918.

On leave, 18 October 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 4 November 1918.
