Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an action. He did splendid work under heavy shell and rifle fire in attending to the wounded. Though he was wounded early in the engagement, he remained at duty, showing the greatest fortitude and self sacrifice.'
