Military Medal 'During operations at BROODSEINDE RIDGE east of YPRES from 1st to 8th Oct., 1917 Pte. McCOSH was conspicuous for his great gallantry and devotion to duty. He was detailed to repair telephone cables between Battalion Headquarters and RETALIATION FARM. This space was continually swept by heavy enemy artillery and machine gun fire and the cables were cut almost hourly. Notwithstanding the trying conditions he was ever ready to repair any damage and by his efforts communication was kept throughout the operation. His tireless enegy in keeping 450 yards of wire continually in repair whilst subjected to the most demoralising shell fire were remarkable and his courage magnificent.'
