Military Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty. He was the Guard of the train crew who were detailed to remove three 9.2" guns from beyond Roisel on the night of the 21st/22nd March, 1918. They were successfully removed after 5 hours operations, during which time they were being continuously shelled and shrapnel falling incessantly. Their coolness and courage was most marked and commendable. After the guns were successfully removed and left at Doingt, these men again returned with the object of removing the two 12" guns at Villers Faucon, but as the line was so badly broken the effort was unsuccessful.'
