'This Warrant Officer has rendered excellent service to the Division since joining the ordnance Branch in July 1916. It has been largely owing to the consistently thorough and expeditious was in which he has carried out his duties, that Units of the Division have been enabled to secure prompt replacements of essential stores during operations, and that the fullest advantage has been taken of salvage possibilities and the maximum saving of public money effected. On two occasions during the past year the Ordnance Staff of the Division became seriously depleted owing to casualties caused by enemy shell fire. under these circumstances and whilst active operations were in progress, the efficiency and devotion to duty of Sub/Condr. MacDermid contributed, in no small degree, to the Ordnance services being satisfactorily maintained.'
