'For marked courage as runner in the attack near Beaurevoir on 4 October, 1918. He led the assaulting sections, and when the advance was checked returned to the report centre and accurately reported the situation. He was then given orders for the renewal of the attack, and after being shot through the knee, continued under heavy fire and delivered his message.'
