War service: Western Front Embarked Hobart,1 July 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 22 August 1916. Promoted 2nd LT, 4 October 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 November 1916. Admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, 13 December 1916 (mumps), and transferred to 1st Casualty Clearing Station; to No 19 Ambulance Train, 15 December 1916, and admitted to 14th Infectious Hospital, Boulogne, 16 December 1916; discharged to Base Rest Camp, 31 December 1917; marched into 3rd Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 6 January 1917. Resumed duties as 2nd LT, in the field, 18 January 1917. Promoted LT, 26 January 1917. Detached to 3rd Division School, 22 April 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 29 April 1917.
