Military Medal 'Displayed commendable gallantry and devotion to duty during the enemy raid and five hours bombardment on the HOUPLINES Left Sub-sector on 22nd January, 1917. He organised his Vicker's Gun crew under heavy shelling and opened fire from the front parapet on the raiders and inflicted many losses on them. His action contributed largely in repelling the raid.'
