War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front

Taken on strength, 1st Bn, Gallipoli, 2 August 1915. Wounded in action, 6 August 1915 (gun shot wound, right arm). Transferred to Mudros, 7 August 1915; to England, 18 August 1915, and admitted to Military Hospital, Bethnell Green, 26 August 1915.

Rejoined Bn at Tel el Kebir, Egypt, 20 February 1916. Admitted to No. 2 Stationary Hospital, 25 February 1916 (old wound, right arm); discharged to Overseas Base, 11 March 1916.

Embarked for England, 11 May 1916; marched into No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 12 August 1916; marched out to 16th Brigade, Wareham, 24 March 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 17 October 1917. Admitted to hospital, 14 February 1918 (deafness).

Transferred to 1st Machine Gun Bn, 4 May 1918.

Marched out to England for return to Australia, 5 December 1918; commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Kashmir', 9 March 1919; discharged, 1 July 1919.
