'At ZONNEBEKE on the night 10th/11th October, 1917, Lance Corporal BERGMEIER at very great personal risk exposed himself under exceedingly heavy shell fire to dress and bandage several wounded men, and did not leave them until all had been removed to the R.A.P. This occurred during an exceptionally heavy artillery fire.'
