'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This N.C.O. has rendered good and gallant service during the period under review. He was present at two very important actions in which the unit was engaged, behaving with much gallantry and devotion to duty. He was wounded in each of these battles, and in all has been wounded four times during his three years service in the field.'
