Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack on the Hindenburg Line North of BELLICOURT on 30th September 1918. In the absence of stretcher bearers this man was detailed to attend to the wounded. After a line had been established this gallant soldier, heedless of all personal danger, and although the whole area was being swept by extremely heavy Machine Gun and shell fire, advanced in to No Man's Land and carried several wounded men back to a place of safety. He showed great courage in the face of many difficulties and was undoubtedly instrumental in saving the lives of many. He worked arduously and continuously throughout the whole operation and his unselfishness is worthy of the highest praise.'
