Admitted to 9th Field Ambulance, 20 June 1917 (stricture dysuria); transferred to Casualty Clearing Station, 21 June 1917, and thence to 11th General Hospital, Camiers; to England, 28 June 1917, and admitted to King George Hospital, London (condition severe); to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 16 July 1917; discharged on furlough, 3 August 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 17 August 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Persic', 21 December 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 12 February 1918; transshipped to RMS 'Ormonde' for onward travel to Sydney; discharged (medically unfit), 21 March 1918.
