Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 12th October, 1917, when all roads and approaches to his Battery at TOKIO (east of YPRES) were under a very heavy and concentrated barrage, ammunition was urgently required. Driver C.L. NEWITT was packing ammunition. One of his horses was wounded and both badly bogged several times. In spite of the heavy shell fire he persevered and stuck to his work until all his ammunition was delivered to the guns. Throughout the whole operations this Driver has done excellent work.'
