Military Medal

'During operations east of PROYART from 25th/26th August, 1918, Private NICHOLS was in charge ogf a Lewis GUn. Three enemy Machine GUns in front of his position were holding up the advance. Seeing this he rushed forward and posted the gun on the left flank, and poured burst after burst at the first gun, killing and wounding the crew, the other two crews seeing the first gun crew's fate, immediately concentrated onto Private NICHOL'S gun, who singled out the weaker gun crew and successfully dealt with them. By this time he had cleared the way for the left half of the Company to go forward and seeing this he with three men rushed the third
