This N.C.O. was in charge of a section during the advance, and his handling of his men in action and under very heavy shell and machine gun fire, was such as to reduce casualties to a minimum. He was successful in dealing with those isolated parties of the enemy and captured some twelve prisoners. After the objective was taken and consolidated he organised and personally led a party of stretcher bearers to tend our wounded, three of whom he personally and at great personal risk removed to places of safety. By his example and cheerfulness under very trying circumstances under very trying circumstances, this N.C.O. set an excellent example to all men in his vicinity. He is recommended for distinction.'
