Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and leadership prior to and during a raid near VILLE SUR ANCRE on 23rd June 1918. He made a personal reconnaissance prior to the raid and brought back valuable information. By his cool demeanour, initiative and disregard of personal danger, he set a fine example to the remainder of the party and was largely instrumental in the success of the raid. When it was reported that his Officer could not be found after the party had left the Trench he immediately volunteered and went back to search for him. His action and conduct throughout are deserving of the highest praise.'
