Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazette No. 29357 on 5 November 1915 for conspicuous gallantry on 13 July 1915 at the Gallipoli Peninsula. Awarded Military Cross 8 November 1915 for distinguished service in the field during operations at the Dardanelles. AIF Orders 9 February 1916, War Office List No. 22/29354, London Gazette. Admitted to 19th General Hospital, Alexandria, with Bronchitis on 12 January 1916. Returned to Australia on 11 April 1916 per H.T. 'Runic' ex Suez for discharge in Australia on disciplinary grounds.
