Deserted at Colombo, Ceylon, 24 January 1916.

Taken on strength, 24th Bn, Zeitoun, 14 March 1916.

Transferred to and taken on strength of 60th Bn, Ferry Post, 4 April 1916.

Found guilty, Duntroon Plateau, 11 May 1916, of (1) neglecting to obey an order given by an Officer; (2) insubordinate conduct on parade: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Found guilty, Moascar, 16 June 1916, of disoebying a lawful command given by his superior officer in that he refused to dig sand out of a pit when ordered to do so by an NCO: awrded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Tried by Field General Court Martial, 12 June 1916, of charge of while on Active Service being absent without leave in that he at Moascar while a defaulter absented himself from all defaulters' parades on 6-7 June and from ordinary Company parades at 0630 & 1600 on 7 June: awarded 59 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916.

Reported Missing, 19 July 1916.

Now, 5 August 1916, reported 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'.

Note, Red Cross File No 2110207: 'No trace Germany[.] Cert. by Capt. Mills 10-10-19.'

Statement, 3329 Pte E. JUDD, B Company, 60th Bn, 28 February 1917: 'He was killed at Fleurbaix on 19th. July. I saw his dead body lying out in No Man's Land. His disc was brought in. I saw it. He was an awful fine fellow, one of the best. He had very bad luck in the Bn. and was crimed for many things he had nothing to do with.'
