'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his men to the capture of their objective with the utmost skill and determination, quickly establishing his company in a good defensive trench. He set a fine example throughout, and kept his Commanding Officer accurately informed as to the enemy movements, and this enabled him to repulse hostile counter attacks.'
