Military Medal 'Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations against the HINDENBURG LINE. On the 10th April 1917 in the ECOUST Sector, a gun pit of the 38th Battery was destroyed by enemy shell fire. Private PICKARD remained at the position attending the wounded. Between 14th and 18th April 1917 (especially during the enemy attack on LAGNICOURT on the morning of the 15th) this man behaved excellently under heavy shell fire, and though himself badly shaken, remained on duty attending casualties. During this interval the Battery lost 4 out of 6 guns by direct hits and several times the personnel were compelled to evacuate the position. Private PICKARD has previously done excellent work on the YPRES Sector (August 27th - November 10th 1916) and SOMME FRONT (NOVEMBER 25TH 1916 - FEBRUARY 25TH 1917).'
