Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a heavy attack on his position, the enemy gained a footing in a farm on high ground, and were causing casualties by enfilade fire. He at once rallied his platoon and led a brilliant charge on the house, driving the enemy out and killing forty. He showed fine courage, and by his prompt action he saved a very critical situation.'
