'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative during the advance near Le Verquier, north west of St. Quentin, on the 18 September, 1918. He took charge of a platoon, and, by keeping liaison with company on his flank, greatly assisted the advance. On reaching the final objective he organized a section and jpushed forward to a trench about 300 yards in advance, whic h he cleared of the enemy. He was responsible for the capture of seven officers and 80 other ranks, which, owing to the rapidity of his movements, were captured in dug outs. He did fine work.'
