Admitted to No 1 General Hospital, Heliopolis, 22 August 1915 (tonsilitis); transferred to No 2 Auxiliary Hospital, Helouan; discharged to duty, 27 August 1915. Transferred to 4th Bn, Ismailia, 21 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 23 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 30 March 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal, 29 April 1916. Temporarily attached to Intelligence Police, 5 June 1916; permanently attached to Intelligence Corps, 24 november 1916.
