Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during attack by 58th Battalion on PERONNE on 2nd September 1918. When his Company, in passing through PERONNE, was held up by a heavy barrage of H.E. and gas, Private ROTH took a message to Battalion Headquarters and returning through the barrage, rejoined the company, which had made a detour. When the company had reached its position forward, Private ROTH again took a message through heavy shelling and returned just after rejoining for the second time, he was wounded. He went alone on both occasions, as his company was short of runners, and his successful work was of the utmost importance.'
