Military Medal 'On 4th July, 1918, during the operation at VAIRE WOOD, east of CORBIE, these Company Stretcher Bearers [3802 W.J. JONES, 3582 G.B. ROWE, 3529 C.F. PARTRIDGE] displayed great gallantry and devotion to duty. They went forward with the first wave and although the enemy artillery and machine gun fire were consistently heavy, worked with untiring energy throughout the day. The Company suffered heavily but these three stretcher bearers unremittingly searched the area traversed during the advance, until towards evening when they were almost exhausted. However, they persisted in carrying on until all our wounded were evacuated.'
